United Nations Extends Nepal’s LDC Graduation Preparation Period to 2029

On 29 October, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution extending Nepal’s preparatory period for graduation from the Least Developed Country category until 24 November 2029. The additional three years are intended to give Nepal more time to strengthen productive capacity, institutions and economic resilience before the transition. The decision is a policy extension, not a financial grant, and no funding amount was attached to it. Government agencies, development partners and policy advisers can explore opportunities in transition planning, economic monitoring and public-sector data systems.
